Argument writing - Do teachers really need to strike?

Paragraph about teacher strike -

"Supplies are important to the teachers. These supplies could help them finish tasks on time including their students. Supplies are very useful to those who really need it. We need more useful supplies like Chromebooks, books, sports gear, and other learning supplies that could help us reach a good level of circumstances. "

This is one of the paragraphs from an argument writing I wrote about a teacher's strike. This is one of my best paragraphs that I wrote and it also is true.

I hope you enjoy :)))

Kiwican!

Kiwican

Today we had a kiwi can session with Mr Numia. We were received a new theme for the month. Our new theme was 'Respect Community'. We talked about how we can respect our own community and what are our surroundings in our community. We had a energiser called rubbish relay. This was a fun game because we had to try throw a paper ball into the rubbish without getting it out. Our activity was called 1, 2, 3. This game is that you have to be in partners and say 1, 2, 3 without stopping. We also added some actions to make it a bit harder. We went through about what we have learnt and did a quick GKQ's. This was a very fun kiwi can session!

Holiday Activity

Young Women Activity

On the second week of the holidays, my Young womens and I had planned a activity together. We went to the Botanical gardens to do a photo shoot. We took tons of pictures with our partners, classes and our individual photos. Our pictures looked amazing and the effects on the pictures were just making us look more beautiful.

Soon after, we went to the museum to have a look around. As we entered into the museum, we went into the women exhibition and it showed many women and stories back then. Looking around the room made me emotional, because it tells us how many women are slaves and how they got paid less back in the days. Also many women were assaulted or they were assaulters. Next we went to a cultural exhibition where we find many special things from our ancestors and who they were. We walked into this lab filled with special weapons from my own country, Samoa. We saw many weapons that were created with coconut fibre, coconut trees and tiger shark teeth. This was so amazing to see many things from my own country that I didn’t even know about.

Later on, we went to the swimming pools to have fun together. Even though many of us didn’t swim, we still had fun and we ate A LOT of food. We played many games in the pool and had races with each other. We kept coming out of the pool and kept switching pools everytime. This pools was great fun.

After that, we all went to Mrs Tofa’s house to prepare dinner for our parents who were coming over and created our movie about what we did today. We all gathered around with our parents and opened ourselves with a prayer. Each young women shared what they enjoyed and why they were special. It was one of the best days during my holiday.

Gymnastics - Kiwisports

Gymnastics

During the past 5 weeks, we have been learning about gymnastics. For our last gymnastic session with Ethan, we did some warms up to warm our body up by running around the hall 10 times. We all gathered around the hall and lined up in a line so we could all write our names down. Ethan told us that we had to do our first move which was for us to jump high and land on two feet. This was very difficult for us, but we kept trying until we did better. Next was the handstand and we had to see how long we could hold our weight by standing on our hands. Our third move was dong a cart-wheel with straight legs in the air. Now this one was pretty easy for all of us and basically we did very good with the third move. Our second to last move was the forward roll. We had to roll over and stand without our hands. Now with this, everyone struggled because they were use to standing up with their hands, but this was a big challenge. Our last move was jumping up in the air and trying to land at the end of the mat. Last of all, we all received bracelets that puts us in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. I received 2nd place, so that means I have to try harder in the future.

Information about Glow in the Dark

1. WALT :
Make connections between different sources of information.

Meaning of WALT - Make links between different websites or videos of information.

2. Collection of Information :
Glow in the Dark known as Luminescence simply requires chemicals that store energy into the light.
These special substances are called phosphors (Different wording - Phosphorescence).
Make sure the expose the item to a light for a while so that it could glow in the dark again.
Chemiluminescence makes the object glow in the dark because of the chemical reaction.
Phosphors found in glow-in-the-dark toys are zinc sulfide and strontium aluminate.
Radioluminescence uses phosphors that are constantly charged by adding radioactive elements, such as radium, to them.
One from nature is Bioluminescence. Some creatures, such as fireflies and jellyfishes, contain chemicals within them the causes things to glow. Some creates glow for protection.

Maths Session in Room 7

21.8.2018 (Maths Session : Tuesday)

During our maths session, we gathered into our house groups. We all had a male name for each group. Rata was Adam, Kowhai was Lachlan, Nikau was James and Kauri was Glenbrae. Our maths equation was that the consonants are 0.23 and the vowels are 0.67. We had to add each other from our name and the letters were rather vowels or consonants. Our name was ‘Adam’ and how we solved it to get our answer was :

(0.67 x 2 + 0.23 x 3) = 1.8

This helped me especially my group to understand how to convert decimals and how to solve it to make it easier for us to understand. This session was very hard, but it helped me and other students to at least take something away from us.

Science Intensive with Room 7

In our first lesson for science intensive, we were learning about Glow in the Dark. This lesson was very fun and all students learnt a lot. As for our students, we learnt how to make our own black light with just using a torch and two different coloured cellophane and create our own glowing water with just water and a highlighter. These were simple and we also learnt a lot of things by watching videos.

Here is a drawing of my Glow in the Dark...

Science Intensive with Room 10

Here is a presentation about Dry ice and how to create fake blood.
On Friday, we were in Room 10 to learn a lesson based on dry ice and fake blood. We had to create a slide and gather up some facts about dry ice. Also we had to write down the steps on how fake blood is made.

Science Intensive in Room 9

Science Intensive
During the morning and middle block, we were at Room 9 to do science intensive. Our lesson for science intensive was based on make-up. During the morning block, we watched a video of a woman doing make-up effects on her face with different coloured paint. She had blend it in with different colours and she also added little details. Her face was a lion and she looked very realistic. We soon had a blank paper with a gender on it for us to draw something on it that we like or researched about. We did some drawing until we went to the art room. We started to grabbed the colours we need including the paint brushes and we started to paint our pictures.

We came back and it was the middle block. We only had half an hour to finish the drawing. We had some completed ones that looked very astonishing and we had some students who were finishing up some of their art. This was just a great lesson for Room 7 to be in and it helped me learn a lot about make-up effects.

Gymnastic Session 2018

Gymnastic Sessions (8.8.2018)
During our morning session, we had Gymnastics with a new instructor Ethan. As we entered into the hall, we took our shoes and socks off and gathered around the hall. For our fitness was a game called ‘Freeze Position’. This fitness game was tiring, but it helped us stretch our body. We soon gathered around the front of  the hall and sat down on the floor. We did stretches like the pike, butterfly, ‘L’ shape, straddle and we added new stretches called the front support and back support. After that we looked around the hall and noticed that there were different stations for different methods. We went around to all stations and they were very exhausting. We had students failing and laughing at their mistakes that they made, but we had some of them making great progress. But during our session, it was a big challenge for me to know when to do it and how to do it. This helped me be more flexible.

Figure it out : Maths problem

During this week, we have been given figure it out mathematics books for us to solve. As I was solving them some were easy an some were hard. I went through one maths problem and I couldn't solve which made me frustrated. This was problem 4 and it was about a T-shirt shop that sold $200 work of T-shirts at $4 each and after they lowered the price to $3 and sold twice as many. This was a multiplication problem and this was a BIG challenge for me to solve including some of my classmates who were frustrated in solving this.

Keep trying and never give up!

Book Week Activity

During my day yesterday, it was a wonderful experience in Glenbrae school because it was our first ever book week. As soon as I entered into the school gates, I saw students dressed up as their favourite characters of their favourite books.

I had excitement building up in my body and I was ready to present my diorama about my favourite book called the Night sky. My character was a wise man who always knew about stars and discovered about the sky, that makes him an astronomer. Soon all classes gathered into the hall with amazing costumes and cheerful teachers with their funky costumes. The tables were set up around the hall with all our hard working projects. I was admiring the art works and the costumes.

Our principal announced each class to go up and show off their costumes. They had teachers dancing in the middle with their long, golden hair and their brooms and buckets. Sadly, we didn’t have much students dress up as their favourite character. But it still was a load of fun. Miss Blennerhassett was a judge for our costumes. She was having a hard time choosing people from the seniors, juniors and also the teachers. Guessing other people’s character was great fun.

After the costume parade, we got put into our areas where our dioramas were placed. We waited until we had an audience going around checking the work each class did. It was a great opportunity for me to explain what my book was about and how it affects me to keep reading. This was a great experience and I learnt a lot of things from other students about what they learnt.

This was a big help for me because it helped me know what reading could do to other people and how we can learn more about what other people like about their books.

Information Report about Neptune

Neptune

Neptune is the furthest planet away from the sun and also known as the coldest planet. Neptune was ruled by a Greek God, the god of sea, Poseidon. It is also known as the densest giant planet, because it is more dense than all the rocky planets.

Urbain Le Verrier is a French mathematician who discovered the planet, Neptune. He predicted the existence about Neptune by using mathematics. As for Urbain Le Verrier, it took him 66 years to calculate and study about Neptune. Urbain Le Verrier had the honor to share the discovery of Neptune with a British mathematician named John Couch Adams. He believed that he was the first person to discover Neptune along with a man named Johann Gottfried Galle.

Neptune has 14 moons around it. One of those are known to be the largest moon around Neptune, that moon is called Triton. It is the first Neptunian moon to be discovered in 10 October 1846 by an astronomer named William Lassell. It orbits on the opposite of it’s planets rotation. Triton is thought as a dwarf planet captured by the kuiper belt which is a Trans-neptunian region. Triton has a surface made out of a frozen nitrogen, water ice crust, an icy mantle and lastly a core of rock and metal.

Neptune is the coldest planet in our solar system, because it is the furthest planet away from the sun, the sun doesn’t give heat to Neptune. Neptune is so far away from the sun which makes it cold. Neptune’s temperature is -214 Degree Celsius and that it can also have very huge storms with extremely strong wind. It’s known for its strangest weather in the solar system.

Neptune is the planet furthest from the sun and the sun doesn’t give heat to Neptune so that’s what makes Neptune cold. Urbain Le Verrier is a French mathematician and discovered Neptune by using maths.

Cooking Argument Writing

Why we should have a cooking class in the Glenbrae hall

Cooking is a activity when someone uses food and kitchenware to create a eatable  dish. In my true opinion, we should create a cooking class in school, because students should learn how to make and understand simple recipes. Students from Glenbrae should have the opportunity to learn and create what cooking is about, and what it can do to help our ideas in cooking.

Is it helpful to have a cooking class? Well, I will truly agree because students could gain more skills in cooking. It will be good for us so that we could have more knowledge from things we get taught in cooking class. It will be grateful if we could have the time to cook different things every, single day.

If we had a cooking class we could be begin to like food we didn’t like before. If each class comes out feeling happy or relieved, that means to me that they are having the ability to know more and that they have learnt something throughout the session. This is good for the school, especially the classes because it can cause us to feel like we want to create recipes of our own which could be very great.

Cooking is helpful for when you are a adult and need to make breakfast, lunch and dinner for someone or yourself. Knowing how to cook is a crucial part in life which everyone needs to know. Without knowing how to cook could leave you eating unhealthy microwave food. This is good for us to be into what could help us in life.

If we did cook at school, we would also learn more about safety awareness. Having safety advices is a good thing to have when we’re cooking, because it could help us feel more safer and having the protection from our staff members. These could make you not burn the kitchen or break some equipments. We should have these reminded to the students or have a list of safety advices for us to always remember when we’re cooking with peers.

These are my opinions on why we should have cooking in school. These could actually help us to develop our talents in cooking and it could help us learn different things we don’t know about cooking. Having cooking in school or in our life is helping our knowledge grow more by learning and having the ability to know what cooking is. So that is why we should have cooking in school.

ToiTioi reading with PWC

During our morning session, we had been introduced to PWC volunteers. These PWC volunteers came to our classroom to talk to us about the newest issue of the Toitoi book. Our group had been taken outside so that we could have a more quieter place to read. When I was continuously reading, I had come across 3 favourite toitoi stories. The reason why I chose these as my favourite because it had emotions in the stories they wrote and also fantastic pictures that had been drawn my younger kids. The stories were called Phoenix, The fall and lastly A life with Type 1 diabetes. These stories were awesome to read and to look at. I had learnt a lot of new things during our session. We used our session for us to know and learn more about a new and published toitoi book. I got to know our PWC volunteer who was named Jess and got to read to each other and read different stories from kids around New Zealand.

My group inquiry about sound

During the past few weeks, Room 7 has been studying on sound. My group has chosen Sound diagram for our main topic. These slides contain information about how sound is produced and how we prevent hearing loss. I hope you enjoy our presentation!

I heard a whisper...

I heard a whisper…

During the mid-year of school, there were four students who needed to study for exams that were coming up. These four students were Jennie, Robert, Jeff and lastly Joanne. After school they planned to study in the library for exams. They went in the library and they started to prepare their books and pens. Four of them were sitting in the library studying for almost two hours.

Soon Joanne got really frustrated because Jennie, Robert and Jeff were busy chit chatting away about what they were going to do after studying. Joanne used all her anger to stop them from talking. “Hey! Can you guys be quiet? Can’t you see I’m studying over here!” Joanne said. They were all quiet, but that’s when they realised that Jennie was getting all nervous around them. “She’s being suspicious”. Robert said and they nodded. Jennie starting to feel more nervous when they started to stare at her like there was something on her face. Jennie was nervously saying “I kind of need help with my studies”. They all smiled and agreed.

They all sat on one table and checked to see what prompt that was given to them to study and when they were VERY shocked to see what the prompt was. They were speechless for 5 minutes and so Jeff started to speak up. “This prompt is very hard to understand and study on”. Firstly they read about the information about the prompt and when they finished, they were struggling to understand and getting stressed about it.

The prompt that was given to them was about the ancient egypt. They had to study for hours and hours until they had to understand. The more they didn’t understand, the more they got more stress and crazy. “This is just to hard to study on” Jennie said. All of a sudden they heard something that make them have shivers coming up from their spine. “Focus. Work hard. Learn”. Those were the words that kept repeating in their heads. They followed the voice from behind the desk where they enter and when they checked behind it was….an old lady, well not just a ordinary lady, but their librarian. She was repeating the words to them. They were very confused. Until the librarian said something.

“Just learn something from a book. There’s one book that is all about the ancient egypt and it can help you to understand”. She said the ways to get to the book and when they did what she say, they saw a lonely book on it’s own. They opened the book and it had alot of ancient egypt ideas about mummies and many more. The more they read, the more they understand and wrote on their books. After 3 hours, they finished their exam homework and they were happy and relief that they had help from the librarian.

2 days later

Exams were finished and it was the day they were going to find out their results. In class the teacher announced the results. When their names were called out, they were so happy because they had 100 out of 100 which was very good. They celebrated with the librarian for the help they got from her.

And they lived happily ever after….
