My Reflection

This year I did my learning with Mrs Parker in a netbook classroom using Google Drive.

Having a netbook made it easier to write because it gave me all the details I needed when writing, and I didn't have to keep asking or keep distracting my teacher.

This year I learned that soldiers from war have dirty trenches to sleep in and they ate corn beef too. I also learnt that all of our soldiers had to leave their families behind just to protect them.

I did research on the solar system, the history of World War I and II and the secrets behind Galileo’s believe that the earth was in the centre of the universe and that the planets revolved around it.

The thing I enjoyed learning about the most was about the war because the soldiers fought hard for our country but, also made sure that they were safe too.

I still want to learn more about the planets because it has a lot of history behind it, and I mean the Galileo history. I think it’s fascinating to gain my knowledge about the fundamentals of science.  

The class trip/activity I enjoyed most this year was our motat trip because the classes got to see Sir Edmund Hillary, had a fun ride on the tram, ran maniacally around or through the mirror maze and finally the cars we had a chance to pretend we were driving.

I am proud of the way I have been respectful to others and encouraging my learning to grow stronger everyday.

Next year I am going to learn about stage 7 maths strategies and focus on things that our teachers say.

                 

Whittaker's Chocolate

Today our teacher Mrs Parker gave us chocolate from the Whittaker factory. The flavour was hokey pokey. Mrs Parker gave us the chocolate because she  wanted us to feel, smell, what it was like, and the weight even what is taste like too. The chocolate felt like creamy slime on our hands and it was really sticky. It smelt like freedom out of this world. The weight of the chocolate was very light  in my hands. Whittaker’s taste was pretty nice because it was low sugar and it had berries which was very cool. Whittaker’s chocolate will be the size of a cube like it is raining from the sky.The flavour I would like to create would be just cookies with dark chocolate.

The next day Mrs Parker gave us a chocolate with berries and biscuits for us to try. The chocolate is really tangy and almost like soury. I didn't like the chocolate because it had berries and I don’t like berries in chocolate, but a lot of people liked it. The size was shaped like a rectangle, the weight was light not heavy, it smelt like milk creamy chocolate, it felt smooth, and it tasted crunchy and soft. The flavour I will create will be sweet white chocolate with raspberries.

P.E with Tamaki College

On Friday the Tamaki College students came to glenbrae school to do P.E with us. After that we were given instructors. Our instructors let us play a fun game called moon walk. We had to bump the other team with a big bouncy ball and there was a lot of injuries.

We got really tired playing all the fun games with our TC instructors. Some groups had treats for being good. Afterwards our group played a game called bull rush tackle. I got tackled so I had to be a tagger. I didn't want to tackle people because I might injure them. A lot of people were in with me because I ran very fast and ankled tapped them. After that we finished P.E and went to the courts to get ready for class.

I felt happy because I got to play fun games, receive treats from our instructor and got to meet the Tamaki College students.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2015

On Wednesday the 11 of November, we had an annual film festival. We went by bus to the Sylvia park Hoyt. When we got inside the theatre there were students practising their script on the stage. Setaita and I were sitting down and waiting for the film festival to start. Our movie was last. After that the glenbrae students went up the stage and did their script really confident. And then it was me and Setaita turn to speak up in front of students, teachers and parents. They were cheering for us. Our movie was called let’s be friends. When we finished we sat down and watch the movie that our teacher Mrs Parker created with a music background. I was apart of the movie and I felt good being an actress with other 2 students Loto and Setaita. The movie was pretty cool.

The film festival was finished and Glenbrae went on the bus back to school. I felt proud because I had the opportunity to speak  in front of everyone at the Manaiakalani Film Festival.

Our stardome trip!

Last week Thursday the senior students went to stardome to learn about the solar system.  Two classes went to each bus and all we did was talk to our friends and had a rest.

When we got to stardome there was a playground for kids and inside stardome there was  planets in the solar system and a space room where we went to learn about the moon, sun and the planets in the solar system.  The sun gots a lot of hydrogen which means the sun has highly  flammable gas, it is colourless and odourless. After that we got to look at the interesting things about the planets even the planets were in the same order like in the solar system.

Next we had to line up quietly went to planetarium even the students saw the huge screen up on the ceiling. We sat on the chairs and waited until we were settled down. The owner for stardome Vanisa were talking to us about the sirius which is a star in the solar system and so the movie started. It was a girl who was creating a project about the seasons and  about the earth is tilted for school and then her little brother came and accidently broke earth and the earth tilt. And There was different seasons in winter, summer, spring and autumn. The little boy’s robot came to real life and it started talking to them.  They went into the rocket ship and talked about the solar system, And They came back and stop the seasons in her bedroom.  Finally the movie finished and then we went outside and got to play for and hour. We went back to school and we were so tired.

I felt happy because we got to learn about the solar system and got to watch a movie about the seasons and the earth’s tilt.

Pluto is a dwarf planet because a celestial body resembling a small planet but lacking certain technical criteria that are required for it to be classed as such. People loves Pluto and there love Pluto because it is alive and well.

Pluto the dwarf planet was adopted in 2006 as part of a three way categorization. A dwarf planet Pluto can orbits the sun like the other planets in the solar system.

Seasons change every 3 months. Each year is marked by different weather and hours of daylight.

In autumn there are light orange leaves falling from the tree top and coming down really slowly to the ground.

In winter there are white snow coming down from the sky and it is very chilly outside.

In spring it is really warm like the heat conditioner. Spring is like a little bit cold sometimes.

When summer is hot and if the sun is really hot you may get skin cancer from the sun.

We have these seasons because the earth is on a tilt as it makes it yearly journey around the sun. When we are on the left hand side we are pointed away from the sun and get less sunlight, but if we are on the right hand side we are pointed towards the sun to get more sunlight, so it is summer.

My superpower is Super Speed

How were mummies were made!

This is my explanation about how mummies were made

We had to found some complex Interrupter, zig zag sentences, AAAWWUBBIS and FANBOYS.

How Mummies were made

After death, the Egyptians believed there was an afterlife.  Because a body would be needed to enter the afterlife, the Egyptians mummified the dead body.  

Firstly the body was placed on a table.  The embalmer removed the internal organs, (apart from the heart), with a steel hook through the nose.  

After the body was emptied, linen was placed inside the body to suck up the moisture.  Then the body was covered with salt and left for forty days to remove any leftover moisture.  After forty days the linen was removed from the inside of the body, and sawdust and spices were inserted.  The sawdust and spices,(expensive and hard to get), were required to help keep the body’s shape.

Next it was time to wrap the body.  The head and neck were wrapped first with white linen and then the rest of the body parts.  Finally a spell book was placed in the hands of the dead body.

The final resting place of the mummy was in a tomb. Because the mummifying process was very expensive, only the very wealthy were able to do it.

ALL ABOUT THE BLACK HOLE

I've discovered the black hole in the galaxy which nothing can escape from. You can see what the black holes does to other things and you can’t reflect light on to it and it is an invisible ball in the galaxy.

Astronomers may prove there are other universes. Be safe everybody!

I knew there was a black hole in the galaxy because some people sometimes talk about the black hole. I think that the black hole is very dangerous, for example:if an astronaut goes into the black hole and he tries to come back out, he may not escape from it. Astronauts have special suits called EMU and it stands for Extravehicular Mobility Unit.

My time with Autumn

My time with Autumn at school

Today at morning tea I played a game with my best friend Autumn. We were playing relays and Autumn and I came as a draw in  relays.  When we finished Autumn says this to me “do you want to play tiggy with my friends”, and so I said “yes”, so she went with me to the playground and we saw her friends playing tiggy and they were in. After that I was in, and I ran as fast as I could to tag Autumn. Later on we were all thirsty. So we went to the drinking fountain and started drinking the water one by one. The bell rang and so we had to go to class. We had S.S.R and we were reading about the solar system, but Autumn and I didn’t know that Mercury was the smallest planet in the solar system we thought it was pluto. The milk monitor gave our milk to us, we started drinking the milk, but behind the milk there was facts about our body parts and how to keep ourselves strong and have protein inside of us. Our teacher told us that “each reading group will read stories about the solar system”. There was a story about a black hole in the galaxy and they might be more planets in the universe, even though there are 9 planets in the galaxy. It was almost lunch time, so Autumn and I got out our lunch, grabbed a fruit and even the fruit was really sweet and juicy, got our hats and went outside.

Autumn went to the playground really quick and I came to the park after her. She was scared to jump to the second spinning wheel, because she thought that she would fall off. So Autumn says “I am not going to jump to the second spinning wheel”. The bark always came on our faces when we always fall down. And then we were walking to the tree to play, but Autumn was singing really loud and I did not know that she could sing. So the bell rang because lunch time was over and so we went to class to do some class work and the exciting thing about our class work was art and I love doing art. We were doing van gogh flowers for art and so Autumn and I were working together, but the hardest thing was lining the grids which Autumn and I got stuck on. At the end our teacher told us to pack up our art paper and clean up our classroom so it can be spotless for our learning tomorrow. The students got their bags and went back home with their family. I felt really amazed because I got to spend time with my best friend Autumn and we had a lot of fun at the playground playing tiggy with her friends.

My exciting holiday.

Guess what I did in the holidays? I went to the movies with my family to watch the maze runner scorch trials at Sylvia park. I went to the movies because I wanted to spend some more time with my family.

Firstly my family and I were going to the shops to buy popcorn and coke for us to eat and drink while watching the movie. Next my dad gave the tickets to the hoyts usher so we can get inside the theatre. Later we sat down into our numbered seat and finally the movie started with a loud noise like fireworks.

After that the movie got really interesting and funny too, but it was silent in the theatre. One part of the movie was a big thundering noise clashing and I got a fright. Later on the movie was almost finished, but I didn’t want the movie to end yet. In the movie a boy name Thomas had a plan and he had friends to help to go to a place called wicked. When the movie finished everybody went outside and I think they all enjoyed the movie.

I felt really amazed because I got to spend time with my family.

Reflections and achievement!

In 2015 I am grateful for P.E sports, swimming skills, and saying speeches confidently. Also I want to achieve science.

Swimming skills

I love to learn some swimming skills because I want to float like a starfish and swim backwards.

Speeches in schools

You always have to remember your line y eart and be confident in front of your school or church.

P.E sports

Playing for cross country is pretty difficult because you want to beat all students sometimes and you want to be first out of the students. Also soccer and netball tournaments you have to train each day even you work as a team.

Achieving science

I want to achieve science because I wanna learn about chemical change, physical world and space is my favourite out of all so I can learn about the solar system.

Windmills are the best!

Wind Power: by Ken Benn

Good things about windmills:

1.The wind generate makes electric power for lights computers.
2. The largest turbine can harness energy  to power 600 american homes.

Bad things about windmills:

1. The next justification put forward by wind marketers was energy independence.

2. None of these ads mentioned that only about 1% of our electric is generated from oil.

Minimising risk

Risk: The windmills might be broken.
Their might not be wind.
Their might not work because in has no power or batteries.
People hates looking at the windmills or turbines.
People don't like loud noises from the windmills.
Aeroplanes might get crash into a windmill.

Windmills are used for hundred years and the windmills are powered by the wind so the windmill can give us wind. windmills are famous at dutch and some people love them.

Insect a part of our healthy diet.

Introduction: We should eat insects as part of or healthy diet. I agree with this statement because they are healthy, they take less water water and they have vitamins and minerals.

1. Insects are healthy because they are full of protein and they are really good for us and it is full of vitamins and minerals.

2. They take 1litre of water to produce and guess what? Insects have meat and it is actually delicious.

3.Finally 2 billion people eats insects which they like to do and also some female bugs have a lot of blood inside them.

Conclusion:  Insects are healthy for us and they have meat in them. They are healthy even 2 billion people eat insects.

Brushing your teeth!

Today Mrs Parker took us outside to practise brushing our teeth. The room 7 students got out thier tooth brush put on some tooth paste on top and started brushing our teeth for 2 minutes. When we finshed brushing our teeth we went back inside and we felt really happy.

Room 7 Daily Fitness

 This morning Mrs Parker took us outside.Some of the Room 7 students relized that the wind was making us really cold. So after that, we went to the field to do warm up's. Afterwards, Mrs Parker told us that we had to run around the school field 2 times. When we finished our running I felt my heart beating really fast and my ankle was sore. My class mates and I did really well. At the end of our fitness we went back down to class and everybody was tired.

Glenbrae is the best school in the world!

Introduction: We are the best school because we have the best teachers, have sports and a lot of learning.

1. At Glenbrae School our teachers are respectful to us and they make us laugh.

2.The sports we have are netball, soccer, ripper rugby and we have tournaments to compete other people.

3. Learning is important to people because they want high grades achivements and have their work finished on time.

Conclusion: Glenbrae is the best school because we have awesome teachers that are respectful to us and sports that give us energy and we even comopete other school's. Learning is important to us so we can finish our work on time.

Gabriella and the man!

On day when Gabriella woke up she looked out her window and it was a fine hot sunny day. She got ready and so her mother called out Gabriella’s name, “Gabriella it’s time to go to the mall” her mother said. They went in the car and drove off.

Meanwhile Gabriella and her mother went to the shop to get some snacks and clothes for their family. After that a man with a black hoodie with red stripe on  it came toward her mother and Gabriella didn’t know that he was coming near her mother. The man stole her mother’s walt and he ran away real fast and so she put her hand inside her pocket and so she said “ oh my gosh where is my wallet!” said mum. In a meanwhile Gabriella went to look for the person that took her mother’s wallet and so she came back and she said “mum I can’t look for the person who have took your wallet” said Gabriella. Later on the mum said “ Gabriella I'm going to the mall”. Next the man went to Gabriella’s house and knocked on the door. After she opened the door and said “ hello who are you and why are you here” Gabriella said and then the man replied “ can I talk to your mum please” and Gabriella said “ my mum is at the mall and no don’t come near my mum okay”.  Mum come back from the mall and so she said “ oh my gosh where are you Gabriella!”. Mum was really worry and mum heard a knock on the door and opened it for no good. It was the man and mum looked into his eyes and knew that he tooked Gabriella. So mum said “ okay if you're here and you know that I live do you know anything about us like our passcode, what is our passcode said mum, “ I am going to call the police on you that you came over and kidnapped my daughter Gabriella. After that the police came and took the man to jail and then mum saw her wallet inside the man’s pocket and so she grab it out and ran inside the house.

Mum went to look for Gabriella and found her tied up at the tree. Gabriella said “ mum thank you for looking for me” and so they lived happily ever after!
