Argument writing - Do teachers really need to strike?

Paragraph about teacher strike -

"Supplies are important to the teachers. These supplies could help them finish tasks on time including their students. Supplies are very useful to those who really need it. We need more useful supplies like Chromebooks, books, sports gear, and other learning supplies that could help us reach a good level of circumstances. "

This is one of the paragraphs from an argument writing I wrote about a teacher's strike. This is one of my best paragraphs that I wrote and it also is true.

I hope you enjoy :)))

Kiwican!

Kiwican

Today we had a kiwi can session with Mr Numia. We were received a new theme for the month. Our new theme was 'Respect Community'. We talked about how we can respect our own community and what are our surroundings in our community. We had a energiser called rubbish relay. This was a fun game because we had to try throw a paper ball into the rubbish without getting it out. Our activity was called 1, 2, 3. This game is that you have to be in partners and say 1, 2, 3 without stopping. We also added some actions to make it a bit harder. We went through about what we have learnt and did a quick GKQ's. This was a very fun kiwi can session!

Holiday Activity

Young Women Activity

On the second week of the holidays, my Young womens and I had planned a activity together. We went to the Botanical gardens to do a photo shoot. We took tons of pictures with our partners, classes and our individual photos. Our pictures looked amazing and the effects on the pictures were just making us look more beautiful.

Soon after, we went to the museum to have a look around. As we entered into the museum, we went into the women exhibition and it showed many women and stories back then. Looking around the room made me emotional, because it tells us how many women are slaves and how they got paid less back in the days. Also many women were assaulted or they were assaulters. Next we went to a cultural exhibition where we find many special things from our ancestors and who they were. We walked into this lab filled with special weapons from my own country, Samoa. We saw many weapons that were created with coconut fibre, coconut trees and tiger shark teeth. This was so amazing to see many things from my own country that I didn’t even know about.

Later on, we went to the swimming pools to have fun together. Even though many of us didn’t swim, we still had fun and we ate A LOT of food. We played many games in the pool and had races with each other. We kept coming out of the pool and kept switching pools everytime. This pools was great fun.

After that, we all went to Mrs Tofa’s house to prepare dinner for our parents who were coming over and created our movie about what we did today. We all gathered around with our parents and opened ourselves with a prayer. Each young women shared what they enjoyed and why they were special. It was one of the best days during my holiday.

Kiwican

Kiwican

Today in kiwican, we had a 45 minute session with Mr Numia. Our theme was resilience and our topic was perseverance. Resilience means doing the right thing and never giving up. Perseverance means to keep trying until you have finally succeed. Our energiser was a game called ball tag. Ball tag was a very fun yet tiring game. Our activity was classroom pictionary. We had to draw pictures related to the word we were given and make the students guess. We did a quick round of GKQ and we had people knowing about the world and New Zealand.

It was a fun session!

Gymnastics - Kiwisports

Gymnastics

During the past 5 weeks, we have been learning about gymnastics. For our last gymnastic session with Ethan, we did some warms up to warm our body up by running around the hall 10 times. We all gathered around the hall and lined up in a line so we could all write our names down. Ethan told us that we had to do our first move which was for us to jump high and land on two feet. This was very difficult for us, but we kept trying until we did better. Next was the handstand and we had to see how long we could hold our weight by standing on our hands. Our third move was dong a cart-wheel with straight legs in the air. Now this one was pretty easy for all of us and basically we did very good with the third move. Our second to last move was the forward roll. We had to roll over and stand without our hands. Now with this, everyone struggled because they were use to standing up with their hands, but this was a big challenge. Our last move was jumping up in the air and trying to land at the end of the mat. Last of all, we all received bracelets that puts us in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. I received 2nd place, so that means I have to try harder in the future.

Information about Glow in the Dark

1. WALT :
Make connections between different sources of information.

Meaning of WALT - Make links between different websites or videos of information.

2. Collection of Information :
Glow in the Dark known as Luminescence simply requires chemicals that store energy into the light.
These special substances are called phosphors (Different wording - Phosphorescence).
Make sure the expose the item to a light for a while so that it could glow in the dark again.
Chemiluminescence makes the object glow in the dark because of the chemical reaction.
Phosphors found in glow-in-the-dark toys are zinc sulfide and strontium aluminate.
Radioluminescence uses phosphors that are constantly charged by adding radioactive elements, such as radium, to them.
One from nature is Bioluminescence. Some creatures, such as fireflies and jellyfishes, contain chemicals within them the causes things to glow. Some creates glow for protection.

  • Glow in the dark - Also known as luminescence

Maths Session in Room 7

21.8.2018 (Maths Session : Tuesday)

During our maths session, we gathered into our house groups. We all had a male name for each group. Rata was Adam, Kowhai was Lachlan, Nikau was James and Kauri was Glenbrae. Our maths equation was that the consonants are 0.23 and the vowels are 0.67. We had to add each other from our name and the letters were rather vowels or consonants. Our name was ‘Adam’ and how we solved it to get our answer was :

(0.67 x 2 + 0.23 x 3) = 1.8

This helped me especially my group to understand how to convert decimals and how to solve it to make it easier for us to understand. This session was very hard, but it helped me and other students to at least take something away from us.

Science Intensive with Room 7

In our first lesson for science intensive, we were learning about Glow in the Dark. This lesson was very fun and all students learnt a lot. As for our students, we learnt how to make our own black light with just using a torch and two different coloured cellophane and create our own glowing water with just water and a highlighter. These were simple and we also learnt a lot of things by watching videos.

Here is a drawing of my Glow in the Dark...

Science Intensive with Room 10

Here is a presentation about Dry ice and how to create fake blood.
On Friday, we were in Room 10 to learn a lesson based on dry ice and fake blood. We had to create a slide and gather up some facts about dry ice. Also we had to write down the steps on how fake blood is made.

Science Intensive in Room 9

Science Intensive
During the morning and middle block, we were at Room 9 to do science intensive. Our lesson for science intensive was based on make-up. During the morning block, we watched a video of a woman doing make-up effects on her face with different coloured paint. She had blend it in with different colours and she also added little details. Her face was a lion and she looked very realistic. We soon had a blank paper with a gender on it for us to draw something on it that we like or researched about. We did some drawing until we went to the art room. We started to grabbed the colours we need including the paint brushes and we started to paint our pictures.

We came back and it was the middle block. We only had half an hour to finish the drawing. We had some completed ones that looked very astonishing and we had some students who were finishing up some of their art. This was just a great lesson for Room 7 to be in and it helped me learn a lot about make-up effects.

Gymnastic Session 2018

Gymnastic Sessions (8.8.2018)
During our morning session, we had Gymnastics with a new instructor Ethan. As we entered into the hall, we took our shoes and socks off and gathered around the hall. For our fitness was a game called ‘Freeze Position’. This fitness game was tiring, but it helped us stretch our body. We soon gathered around the front of  the hall and sat down on the floor. We did stretches like the pike, butterfly, ‘L’ shape, straddle and we added new stretches called the front support and back support. After that we looked around the hall and noticed that there were different stations for different methods. We went around to all stations and they were very exhausting. We had students failing and laughing at their mistakes that they made, but we had some of them making great progress. But during our session, it was a big challenge for me to know when to do it and how to do it. This helped me be more flexible.
